Tape Art: Pool Installation - Buffdiss
Tape Art Installation | A few weeks ago, internationally well-known urban tape artist Buffdiss started to tape a large-scale installation in the big abandoned swimming pool at Stattbad, an more or less alternative art and culture area in Berlin. He invited me to come along and to photographically document the artworks progress and so I did.
Those of you who already know my “Street Artists in Action” photo-project (if not just type www.urbanart-photography.eu into your browser!) also know that my focus is not just on the artwork itself but on the artist and the flair around…

Top Urban Art Books 2010
Urban Art Books | Because it’s almost Christmas, I had the idea to give you a small list of books, I recommend as a Christmas present. The following three books are in my opinion the top urban art books of 2010 and for that reason I’m pretty sure, the presentee will be also happy with them. Here we go…
Art of Rebellion 3 - The book about street art For me, it’s worth having all the three “Art of Rebellion” books by Christian Hundertmark aka C100. For more info, read the small review I already wrote about this book! It’s possible to grab it for about 30 Euro on Amazon. ISBN: 978-3939566298

Urban Art Censorship
Political Street Art | Right, it’s not a new topic but today I want to write down some of my thoughts about censorship in the urban arts. The reason for that decision was first the fact that the dollar-coffin mural by Blu was painted over just a couple of hours after it was completed, because of objections by a museum’s director. Second, it’s because of the fact that we have the ARTAQ Urban Art Awards in town, which is somehow supported by the Reporters Without Borders.

Urban Lines: Art of Popof
Urban Painting | Just minutes ago I stumbled upon the fantastic murals - or more general urban paintings - by Paris-based urban artist Popof.
Until now I’d never heard about the Moscow-born son of an Russian journalist and dissident, who came in contact with graffiti in 1989 and found his way to the French capital. But I have to say when I saw his latest project called “Sillons” (English furrows) first, I was impressed. These abstract urban lines he creates are so simple, but the effect is awesome!

Light-Painting in Kazakhstan
Light Art | You know, I really like light artworks, because of their instability. After these beautiful light art performance photos I have again some light art today.
Marko from France recently informed me about his amazing light-paintings he did earlier this year in Kazakhstan. He combines nice light patterns and typography influences, which looks really great. I hope to see some more of his work in the near future. What do you think? If you like these photos, go to Marko’s website and take a look at his other works!

Spanish Paste-Ups in Berlin
Street Art Action | After these fantastic spider tags and QR code paste-ups, today is the third time I write about the Madrid-based street art collective La Pluma Eléctri*k…
La Pluma Eléctri*k is an street art collective that was born in the bohemian neighbourhood of Lavapiés, Madrid, in the beginning of 2008. They define itself as a multidisciplinary mad Group whose leader is a cat followed by the FBI. (about La Pluma Eléctri*k)

Os Gêmeos Interview
I already wrote about the street art, skateboard and punk documentary series “DIY America” earlier this year, but yesterday I found that interesting Os Gêmeos interview you have to watch!
The identical twin brothers from São Paulo talk about their art and their Sunday painting trips as well as about the consistent further development of graffiti.
They started painting graffiti in 1987 and gradually became a major influence in the local scene, helping to define Brazil’s own style. Stylistically, Os Gêmeos are heavily influenced by the cryptic art of the São Paulo–based pixação graffiti movement as well as American hip-hop, which the twins grew up with in Brazil. The brothers have gained international fame, displaying their work in exhibitions in major cities in the US and Europe.

This Is Street Art...
…is the name of the third book of the “Untitled” book series. After “Street art in the Counter Culture” (2008) and “The Beautiful Renaissance” (2009) this 192 pages book again is about the most important art movement of our time and features artists from around the globe including Banksy, Dan Witz, Ron English, Obey, Mark Jenkins, Elbowtoe, Swoon and many more.
But it also covers this year’s “Fame Festival” (Do you remember that brilliant animation Blu and David Ellis did last year?) and the “Ghost Village” project and discusses the hot question: “Is Street Art an extension and evolution of Graff or a corruption of Graff’s pure rebel yell into an easy to swallow rebel lifestyle?”

A1one & Street Art in Tehran
Iranian Street Art | I already wrote about Iranian street art pioneer A1one and his interesting mixture of stencil art and proper calligraphy, but today I found a great documentary by the Webistan Photo Agency in which he talks about his backgrounds, street art in Tehran, his own art and why in Iran they know that the wall graffiti and street art are important not only in Iran.
In Iran, both Hip Hop and graffiti have the same age. This culture is not established yet. It’s like an child - it’s just growing but right now it’s more fight and just doing websites… (A1one)
