For some weeks, the print festival “Philagrafika 2010”, which thematizes the role of print in contemporary artistic practice, takes place in North Philadelphia.
More than 300 artists participate, including famous, New York based street artist Swoon, who was recently interviewed by Douglas Kelley and is known by most people through her wheat-pasted cut-outs, which have appeared throughout New York for the better part of the last decade!
Well-known street art documentarist Becki Fuller visited “Philagrafika”, which includes etchings and woodcuts, vinyl graphics, comic books, videos, and other interesting stuff, and took a lot of nice shots!
“Swoon’s colorful woodcuts on brown paper can be found scattered amongst businesses with names such as Don’s Doo Shop, burnt out buildings, art parks, and a long-abandoned gas station.
They are, as Swoon says, a moment of recognition, a wink from another human presence which is there and not there.” (The Street Spot)
