Urban Art Berlin: Explore the City's Vibrant Street Art Scene

Last time I visited Czarnobyl’s studio in Kreuzberg, the Berlin-based street artist showed me some test and preparation works for a new series of stencil artworks. Finally he finished a few and uploaded some photos I just stumbled upon. The new series focuses on a great style-mix by combining rough backgrounds with multi-layered greyscale stencils, what makes the it transporting some heavy metal feelings, if know what I mean!? Czarnobyl is one of Berlin’s most famous stencil artists and describes his style as cyber-punk stencil art. I for one really like his new works, what do you think? ...

Famous for his large-scale depictions of animals on city walls around the world, Belgian urban artist Roa brings the creatures which inhabit the fringes of human society back to the metropolis. Recently Skalitzers Gallery opened its doors for his first solo-exhibition in Berlin, including again brilliant paintings, sketches and drawings of animals in his unique style… Of course I joined the opening ceremony, chatted with the man of the day, took some photos for those of you who can’t make it to visit the show and had some first insights into Roa’s first limited edition book Roa: An Introduction To Animal Representation by Mammal Press (Photos of the book will follow - I just can say it’s simply great!). Other good news is, that he will add some new animal murals to Berlin’s streets in the next days, be curious! ...

john reaktor - grabowsee A month ago, I already posted about the upcoming urban art festival at Artbase Grabowsee near Berlin and informed you about the big line-up of local and international urban artists participating. Urban Art Show | As already mentioned in the street art news review, Swiss urban artist Tika recently opened her exhibition, the so called Tikathek, at Skalitzers Gallery in Berlin. Yesterday, the graffiti event “Art Monument” (Turmkunst) started with a lot of hoopla in Berlin. As I mentioned, four of the most well-known urban artists, Honet, Flying Förtress, Sozyone and KR, will repaint with about 2,000 spray-cans the the 2,000m² facade of the old “Bierpinsel”. Inside the tower, artworks by KR, Dave Decat, Dave the Chimp, Form76, Flying Förtress, Honet, Mr. Nonski, Nils Kasiske, Olivier Kosta Théfaine, Poch, Sozyone, Stefan Strumbel and Keramik are shown in a unique “Turmkunst” exhibition. Yesterday I visited the opening of the 44flavours art show at the 72h Gallery in Berlin. It was a good exhibition in a nice show-room, but although there were some really interesting repainted silk-screen prints, I somehow missed a certain touch… In addition, I think that the 44flavour guys should have had a bit more time to give their artworks the lacking something! Nevertheless the 72h concept seems to bear fruits - The exhibition was well-frequented and there were artworks sold already at the beginning. ...
