Urban Art Photography: Captivating Street Art Images

For those of you who like the commercialization of street art, the next month will be pretty interesting: In Berlin, the “Stroke.3 - Urban Art Fair” will take place between October 7th and 10th (more about that commercial street art event later!) and in London, the “Moniker - International Art Fair” will take place between October 14th and 17th. Because I’m currently in London, I’ll write about that Moniker-event first… ...

Now it’s time! My new urban art photo-blog about street artists in action is online with some first basic posts, including interesting photos of Flying Förtress, The London Police, Seak One, Buffdiss, Mode2, Augustine Kofie and The Mac at work! Inspired by that fantastic street artists at work photo-gallery, I had the idea to create my own gallery-blog, focusing on graffiti and street artists being creative: For years now, I document street art in Berlin and other European cities I visited. What I learned is, when you are deep in that multicultural and highly creative public art scene, you want to get in touch with its protagonists, with the people behind those often funny or political street artworks. Since I’m in London, some interesting things happened in Berlin. I will give you a short overview in the next Urban Art Eye Candy post, which should be ready in the next days. But today I show you the new abandoned tape artworks, my friend Buffdiss recently did in some old factories and warehouses… Australian tape artist Buffdiss is well-known around the globe for his fantastic tape installations, showing hands, ornaments, letters or other line-based stuff, whereas some of his latest artworks combine tape and paint and create in this way some new effects! And although it seems the new works are still experimental, I hope to see more of that stuff soon! ...

Last weekend I caught up with Argentinian stencil artists RDW in London and took shots of some live action on the streets - The result was a huge stencil-sprayed portrait of Che Guevara on Great Eastern Street in Shoreditch. Make sure to this out! Some of RDW’s latest stencil artworks are currently part of “Buenos Aires Calling”, the Argentinian street art show at Pure Evil Gallery and could be seen there until September 12th! ...

Do you noticed the stunning photo-gallery of street artists at work over there on Six Oranges? You should really have a look at! Shafiur Rahman and Harjinder Bahra - ably assisted by Parminder Bahra, Dorota Halewska (camera), Brian Peters, Martina Mosna (camera) - took some wonderful profiles of artists they met for the upcoming Brick Lane documentary, including Blek Le Rat, Dale Grimshaw, Knowhope, C215, Remed, 3TTMan, David le Fleming, Nathan Bowen, Stik, Indigo, Macay, Grems, Zbiok, Dscreet, Sinboy, Joseph Loughborough, Joe Deane, Ben Slow and others. ...

For one week, a lot of interesting and totally different urban artists worked hard under London’s Westway and finally tomorrow the public opening will take place. I already went to see Snub23, Sinna One, Ink Fetish, Funky Red Dog, Foundry, Leeks, Nine-o, Fin DAC and other London-based graffiti and street artists during the last days and of course took some photos… The location is rather nice and the feeling between the concrete pillars, stabilizing the Westway, is pure urban! For a few days, the interesting UK debut solo-show by Brooklyn-based urban artist Specter is running at famous Pure Evil Gallery. As you maybe know, I’m fortunately in London at moment and took the chance to meet up with Specter at the gallery! When I arrived I was highly impressed by the realistic paintings and the clean, but still urban-touched style of the slightly different artworks. Specter, who exhibited together with the Berlin-based street artists Various and Gould a few month ago, is well known around world for his wide range of street art interventions, reaching from large paste-ups to shopping cart sculptures, cardboard gates and brickwork mods. ...

Today I visited the amazing stencil art exhibition by French stencil artist C215 in London’s Signal Gallery! Although photos say generally more than words, I want to tell you that C215 also did some really nice and colorful artwork outside on the streets. So if you’re also currently in London, walk down the streets nearby the gallery! C215 has made a name for himself internationally as a street artist, second to none. For the past 5 years, he has been taking himself across the world, to major cities and small towns and ‘decorating’ their street walls with his own special brand of beautiful and intricate stencil artwork. His approach has always been to get involved with the street and get the inhabitants to enjoy and appreciate his contribution to their environment. (Signal Gallery) ...

Today I received a nice e-mail by Spanish street artist Rallito X, who asked me for publishing his latest street painting artworks on Urban Artcore. Before I will do that I will introduce you to Rallitox and especially his crazy urban monster art by quoting Andrea García Santana, who wrote… These characters are a reflection of what has been the theme of this artist’s work throughout his career: media manipulation, the attitude of an alienated society. ...

Wow, the last four day were really hard, but in the end Luna Park, RJ and me decided the best five urban art photos out of a 500 photos pool! Much better submissions this year - made the choice very difficult.
