This October will be hot, at least in Vienna. There will in fact meet some of the big names of the international urban-inspired art scene…Anton Unai, Faith47, Jaybo aka Monk, Marco Pho Grassi, Nomad, Stefan Strumbel, Xoooox and others will exhibit together at the Kunsthalle Wien Vordere Zollamtsstrasse 3 in Vienna.

The whole thing will happen under the striking title “Escape the Golden Cage” and combines space and city, comic and pop as well as street art and graffiti to one big show.

Today, street art and graffiti no longer exclusively show up in the fabric of the public, urban space, but also appear in the institutionalised interior space of museums and galleries. The spontaneity and guerrilla attitude of the (often illegal) work in outside spaces transfers to the works for the white cube, thereby lending to an internal tension and urgency, that “established art” sometimes lacks. Street artists and graffiti sprayers thus break out of the art framework and bring their aesthetic and expressiveness to a new and exciting level by means of modified media which also inspires Artists whose origin is not found in this subculture. “Escape the Golden Cage” will show both, artworks by urban artists and artworks by artists who were inspired by urban art. Jaybo will make the beginning with one of his almost legendary live-paintings… Seems to become quite interesting, right?
