Vermibus Ad-Busting in Berlin

Berlin-based ad takeover artist Vermibus shows how it’s done! Using nothing more than some brushes and different solvents, Vermibus transforms popular advertising posters of fashion models (e.g. Kate Moss) and puts them back to the streets… The gesture of erasing the images with solvent is similar to the gesture of painting, but it is painting counter action. The process is the same, but it is not adding colours on a canvas to create an image, it is removing the colors of an existing photographic image to create a new image and new characters. The models of the adverts have mutated. Some look like ghosts or mummies, some are reminiscent of Francis Bacon’s paintings, some of tribal make-up. ...

Do you remember those nice DIY Graffiti Umbrellas by the Dutch graffiti artists Sons and Romeo? Ema just wrote me about the young, German urban creation start-up Choke, which aim is to combine everyday products with artful designs from around the globe… They have a collection of quite nice umbrellas designed by famous urban artists like A1one from Tehran, Papermonster from New York and Cabaio from Buenos Aires! By the way, the inspiration which lead to those Choke Umbrellas came from the rainy streets of Glasgow, Scotland - the monotony of a modern metropolis on a rainy day is sometimes really depressing. ...

DIY Graffiti Umbrellas

One of the most interesting think about spray-paint is my eyes that it allows you to customize almost everything, for example your car, trains, concrete, trousers, caps, and even umbrellas! Dutch graffiti artists Sons and Romeo just showed how it’s done and who knows, now as the weather is getting wetter and wetter, probably I will try spray-painting my umbrella myself… We had some fun customizing our own graffiti umbrella. Dave the Chimp Socks

I received a nice e-mail by Dave the Chimp today, informing me that he has a new obsession: Socks! Limited to only 300 boxed sets, each set contains three different pairs of socks featuring my Human Bein characters, two big stickers, and a 48 page full colour book of the Human Beins enjoying life in the streets of Berlin and Hamburg. 75% of the socks in the world are made in China, but these beautiful box sets are made completely in Germany, with all the printing and box manufacture made within 5 miles of were I live.
