VNA: Exploring the World of Urban Art

One of my favorite urban art mags meets one of my favorite graffiti artists: Very Nearly Almost caught up with Austrian graffiti legend Nychos The Weird in London in late July 2012 with João Retorta and Luke Atkinson filming him doing his best… painting, painting, painting. Nychos passed through London last month and even with loads of rain, overzealous council workers buffing a piece on a private wall (within hours of it being finished) and several days dealing with a mysterious illness, he managed to paint some amazing murals. London’s finest Very Nearly Almost (VNA) magazine faces its second big birthday, but before the 20th issue will be published in the next weeks, I just received VNA Magazine #19 or what I am calling it, the Anthony Lister edition… For me, VNA #19 is definitely one of their best issues. Not just because that they got (Mr. Crazy) Anthony Lister in a royally pose on their cover, but also interviewed several of my favorite urban artist: Low Bros, How&Nosm and Best Ever! ...

VNA 18 - Conor Harrington After I recently got the latest Amateur Magazine from Switzerland, I finally received the 18th issue of London’s finest Very Nearly Almost (VNA) Magazine! And again they put together some of the major players in the urban art scene… Featuring not just bloody awesome painter Conor Harrington, whose East-London studio decorates the cover of VNA 18, but also graffiti legend Mode2, Shawn Barber, mister Calligraffiti Shoe, Ronzo, the largest mural painter Remi Rough and more! In addition to the interesting interviews with those great artists, the mag also includes several nice street shots again, this time focusing on London, Sydney and Rio… ...

London-based bright art star Conor Harrington is not just cover hero of the latest Very Nearly Almost (VNA) magazine (here some insights into the issue before..) but is also running his Dead Meat show at Lazarides Gallery till the 14th of April. I was hanging around Conor’’s studio during the making of his latest show at Lazarides in London, here’s some exclusive snaps! Already some days old, but still fresh is the dope, quality interview the VNA team did with The London Police boys in Amsterdam for the 17th issue of London’s finest Very Nearly Almost magazine! At first it was a very simple doodle. And I mean simple, it was essentially a stick man with a round head that I’d draw…(Chaz about the Lad) Chaz and Bob are present in Europe’s street art scene for over a decade. Together this duo traveled the globe, decorating streets not just in Europe, but also in Brooklyn, Hong Kong and other places, for what reason their iconic, fat outlined character (simply called the Lad) became popular around the world! And now, enjoy this The London Police interview! ...

After Sickboy, Shepard Fairey and Invader it’s now The London Police decorating the cover of the latest issue (number 17!) of London’s finest VNA Magazine! Again, the mag includes great interviews with some of the top urban artists from around the world, like Goldie, El Mac, Toasters just to name a few, and features with London, Milan and Toronto some nice metropolises and especially its street art scenes! Again, VNA 17 is a nice reading for urban art enthusiasts from all over the globe and worth to check out. ...

After that marvellous 15th issue of UK’s VNA magazine, some weeks ago the next one was released including a large feature of French tile/ pixel artist Invader! Recently the VNA crew published a nice teaser documenting their meet and greet with the famous street artist, showing a neat insight into the interview which can be found entirely in the 16th VNA issue. I already got my copy for what reason I can promise, that it’s worth it! ...

A few weeks ago the VNA crew teamed up with itdrewitself (you know, the dudes who recently visited Ron English in his studio!) to present three Australian urban artists painting in a derelict warehouse and chatting about their work… Being linked by being not just Australians and also renowned artists but by independently visiting the UK in June, Meggs, Anthony Lister and Kid Zoom painted a face in their unique styles and created in that way a nice collaboration-wall in London. ...

Shepard Fairey, Logan Hicks, Burning Candy, Nychos, Elph and other interesting urban artists are featured in the latest issue of the Very Nearly Almost magazine, which also includes one of my Urban Artists in Action shots and photo-specials not just about London and LA, but also about Berlin! Because of so much awesome, the VNA crew had to squeeze in extra 32 pages to make it all fit, which is why this issue is the biggest in VNA history! Fortunately I recently received two issues of the number 15, for what reason I am able to give away one VNA mag for free… ...

Urban Art Mag | A couple of weeks ago, I received a small package from my friends in London, including the latest issue of the urban art magazine “Very Nearly Almost” (VNA)! It’s the 14th issue and again it includes a lot of interesting interview with a lot of interesting urban artists as well as nice photos from the streets of London and Miami.
